unable to copy songs to ipod classic

I have recently found errors when doing a sync on itunes to my ipod classic 6gen to my windows10 hp. When i initially connect via USB, i get the message 'problems with disk, scan to fix'. then in itunes after initially connecting and recognizing the device, i get errors for most/all songs with unknown error -50 and -53 messages. When i select the device via windows explorer, i get the message 'please insert a disk into [my ipod name].

I executed the manual boot and ran smartdata which gave these results:

I want to avoid the scan to fix solution unless its my only hope - i had issues with other USB storage after that 😟

is this ipod still salvagable?
